a branding and web design studio for technical companies

we light names.

the first letter of every word in a name carries the light. that is the studio's whole method, and it runs on any name. put yours in and watch it get made.

a branding and web design studio for technical companies

branding and websites for technical companies, built so the claims can be checked.

we design the brand, build the site, and hand over the measurements underneath it: weight, speed, contrast, keyboard access, and the source of every number.

the building is the word. she is the letter that is lit.

what you get

a brand somebody else can hand to somebody else
the mark in every state, the ramp with every contrast figure computed rather than estimated, the type scale, and a written book that says what to do when two rules disagree.
a site that is fast because it is small, not because it is optimised
static output, hand written css, no framework, no third parties. the weight is a budget the build enforces, and the build fails when it goes over.
the drawing under it
a measurement file. what was tested, on what hardware, on what date, what changed, and what is still unknown. it goes in your repository. it is a deliverable with a date on it, not a slide.

how to read this site

nothing on this site is invented. every number in the reading column has a line in the margin beside it: who measured it, how, and what it does not prove. where no result exists yet, the space is left blocked out rather than filled in.

a blocked out run is a real thing in a sign shop. glass painted matte so that it carries current without lighting. it is not a fault. it is the part that is not claiming to be lit.

m
measured by elesur, in a named tool, on a stated date
t
reported by a named third party tool
c
the client's own claim, carried as given and not verified here
hatch: no result exists yet. the space is blocked out and dated.

disclosure is not a state. it is a sentence, and it goes at the top of the sheet it applies to.

a sign, and the drawing under it

a bender draws the route of the glass at full size, in reverse, before touching the tube. every bend numbered, every blocked out run hatched, every glass length written down. the sign is what you see. the drawing is how anyone checks it was made right.

the drawing is mirrored because a bender lays the glass face down on it.

the work

three engagements. all three carry a limit, and all three say what it is before they show you a number.

what we will not do

  • we will not put a number on your site that we cannot show you the measurement for.
  • we will not write that something improved when all we have is the before.
  • we will not reuse one client's figure as evidence on another client's page.
  • we will not publish a client's name, or their logo, without their word.
  • we will not add a third party script without telling you what it costs in kilobytes and in milliseconds, and then we will ask again.

no verifiable fact about any client's business has been invented anywhere on this site.

what it costs

one project at a time. a fixed price agreed before anything starts, written down with what is in it and what is not. if the scope changes, the price changes on paper, in advance, or it does not change.

the drawing

$900 · 5 working days

a measured teardown of the site you have now. weight, speed, task time, a contrast ledger, the keyboard path, and a list of what to fix in what order. paid, not free: a free audit is a sales call with a document attached, and a paid one is the cheapest way for a stranger to test a new studio.

the sign

$7,500 · 5 to 6 weeks

the identity. the name treatment and the lit-name system, the colour ramp with every contrast figure computed rather than estimated, the type scale, and a written book that says what to do when two rules disagree. the 1:1 pattern is drawn, signed and sent.

the sign and the building

$19,500 · 10 to 12 weeks

the identity above, plus the site. static, hand built, no framework and no third parties, to a weight budget published on the page and enforced by the build. you get the repository, the deploy, and the measurement file underneath all of it.

start

write in plain sentences about what the site has to do and who has to understand it. you will get a reply with what we think it costs and how long it takes, or the name of somebody better suited.
